Saturday night in Salt Lake City, crowds waited in anticipation as history was unsealed at the Historic LDS 10th Ward.
It was a time capsule, placed in the cornerstone of the church before the inventions of the talking movie, crossword puzzle, and pop-up toaster.
Church members learned of the time capsule from a historian researching the building, who came upon a newspaper story that reported the capsule sealed inside the cornerstone.
Brian Jackson Fetzer said, "Some people thought there would be money or coins."
So what was really inside the metal box, placed in the 10th Ward cornerstone 100 years ago?
Ward member Caroline Jolley told us all about the discovery. "There was a little teeny Book of Mormon, and Bible, and there was a paper of the history of the ward."
Ruth Pettigrew Jamieson said, "I was really excited to come here tonight, because my great, great grandfather, David Pettigrew, was the first bishop here."
The capsule's contents will be on display at the 10th ward before they are sent to the LDS Church History Museum.
The ward is now assembling another time capsule, to be opened in 2109.
