Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @12:10pm CST Davis County residents were shaken by a loud blast from an explosion and fire at a refinery in North Salt Lake Wednesday morning.
At around 9:15 a.m. there was a loud boom, followed by fire at the Silver Eagle Refinery located at 2355 South 1100 West in Woods Cross. Multiple callers tell 2News that they felt the explosion as far away as Roy. The force of the blast knocked one home just east of the refinery off its foundation. The home's owner is now packing up their belongings and moving out as the house has been condemned. Two other homes suffered structural damage. Fire officials say a line containing hydrogen and diesel fuel somehow failed, leaking product onto the ground. The mixture ignited and caused a large explosion. Officials say the fire is out and no one was injured in the mishap. ![]() No evacuations were ordered. “Currently there is no danger at the plant,” said Jeff Bassett, South Davis Metro Fire. Bassett says plumbs of smoke coming from the surrounding plants are due to a power outage that occurred at the Silver Eagle plant. Photo courtesy Amy Boehme (above) Pete Chatelain (right).
