Beginning tomorrow, smoking will be prohibited inside and outside IHC hospitals.

The new initiative prohibits the use of tobacco products anywhere on the grounds of Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Riverton Hospital and the Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Murray.

Riverton Hospital opened November 2nd as a tobacco-free campus.

Patients will be offered nicotine gum or patches. Family members of patients will be asked to smoke away from the hospital campus.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death here in the U.S.
